A note from two sisters about the place that shaped us, why it needs help now, and a cozy sweater we would love to share with you.

The two sisters behind Rose & Jamie and the story that inspired our boutique.
We were 18 when we left home in the United States for Paris in 1990 to study fashion. We were excited, a little overwhelmed, and a very long way from home. We had no idea that a small boutique would become one of the most important places in our lives.
During the week, we studied fashion and shared a tiny attic room. On weekends, we worked at a neighborhood boutique called Maison Avélune. From our very first days, we were welcomed with such warmth that the shop quickly began to feel like home.
We learned how a boutique runs, but its owner taught us something far more important: fashion is not really about the clothes on the rack. It is about the person who takes them home. A piece only matters when it makes someone feel comfortable, confident, or a little more herself.
That is the lesson we still carry into Rose & Jamie. But Maison Avélune gave us more than a way of looking at clothes. It gave us a place where we knew we would always be welcome.
Why Maison Avélune Means So Much to Us

For other people, Maison Avélune might have been just another little fashion boutique in Paris. To us, it was a second home. The woman who owned it became like a second mother. When we went through difficult periods, she was there to help us. No matter what was happening, we knew there was somewhere we could go.
We never forgot that kindness. It is part of the reason we wanted Rose & Jamie to feel personal: not like a shop that sees a size or a sale, but like a place that sees you.
Now Maison Avélune has been largely destroyed and looted. Seeing a place that once felt so safe in this condition is heartbreaking for us. We want to help restore the boutique to the welcoming place it once was.
